DIY Cold air intake Empty
PostSubject: DIY Cold air intake   DIY Cold air intake EmptySun Nov 01, 2009 11:18 am

Dear all, I would like to seek some suggestions on a DIY cold air intake. I had recently installed an open pod air filter. I have seen many lancers have retained the original air snorkel tube (minus the filter box). However, I would like to add on another air snorkel or tube to funnel additional air to the open pod filter.

Any suggestions on ways to do this. Pictures will be nice.

Thanks.

Steven, just add a hose to funnel more/faster air into the existing ori tube, like I did here :

The hose is hidden behind the lower grill and up into the ori tube. FYI, I had cut a rectangular hole in the horizontal panel (the one at the front of the engine bay) and has a plastic panel covering the hole, thus channelling the on-rushing air into the ori tube and onwards to my K&N drop-in.

Some members also have this hose and they cut a hole in the fog-light grill to accommodate the hose. I thought this was unnecessary and may even cause more dirt/stones/etc to reach the filter (whether open-pod or drop-in) and true enough I saw a member's open-pod that was very dirty with many small little stones/pebbles in it.

If you follow my suggestion here, I don't think there's any need to have two hoses Smile

If you want REALLY cold air, try Snow Performance Boost Cooler. Now, that IS cold air for you Smile Mine is for sale, as you know Smile

Thank for the picture. I have a similar set up to yours....I was being on the cheap side and have used PVC pipes and funnel. Maybe I will cut a hole in the horizontal panel to directly channel the air to the scoop. Looks ugly though.
