PROTON Holdings Bhd akan membuat pra pelancaran serta membuka tempahan bagi model gantian Waja yang dibangunkan berdasarkan kepada Mitsubishi Lancer Fortis yang dipertingkatkan, selepas Aidilfitri ini.

Pengarah Urusannya, Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, berkata pelancaran model itu adalah sebahagian program penggantian semua model lama PROTON, sejajar rancangan pemulihan perniagaannya. Fasa pandu uji model gantian Waja di kilang PROTON dan di atas jalan raya sudah selesai baru-baru ini dan ia menghasilkan maklum balas sangat positif. Justeru, kami akan memasuki fasa pengenalannya ke pasaran atau prapelancarannya selepas Aidilfitri nanti, katanya pada sidang media selepas pelancaran Kempen Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Di Jalan Raya dan Tempat Kerja di Kilang Proton, Shah Alam, semalam. Hadir sama Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya(JKJR), Datuk Suret Singh.

Sementara itu, Berita Harian difahamkan, model gantian Waja itu mengekalkan 95 peratus reka bentuk luaran dan dalaman Lancer Fortis, tetapi menampilkan perbezaan ketara bahagian luaran.

Model gantian waja itu dijangka ditawarkan pada harga sekitar RM75,000 (bagi versi 1.8 liter manual); RM80,000 (bagi 1.8 liter auto) dan hampir RM100,000 untuk 2.0 liter. Ketika ini, model sedia ada Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT yang diimport sepenuhnya (CBU) dari Jepun, dijual pada harga atas jalan tanpa insurans pada RM120,598.10 seunit.

in japan, they name it Galant Fortis
in tiawan, they call it Lancer Fortis
in msia, we call it Lancer GT..

all of them are same chasis base product.. same production line in Tokyo Mits Motor.

IMHO, I think engine should be 4B11. It just doesn't make sense if the agreement between Proton and Mitsu is just about the looks.

Guys, I know we Lancer owners are pissed about this but I hope none of us will look down on "Walan" owners. Look down on Proton, be pissed at both Proton and Mitsu but be logical about "Walan" owners... bcoz if this really becomes reality then these Walan owners are only practicing common sense when they decide to buy a "Walan".

Only be pissed at "Walan" owners if they start stealing logos/emblems/whatever from Mitsu Lancers.

Actually, I haven't really posted my honest opinion about this topic, not here at LN nor anywhere else. Ever realized that and wondered why?

Although I understand why most Lancer owners are unhappy about this (because they bought a Mitsubishi and now their car is basically being cloned by a local car company which so happens to be our very Proton), there is one part (about why these Lancer owners are pissed) that I fail to understand.

And that has to do with the fact that so many Lancer owners have modded their car to look like an EvoX.

Altho you may argue that this is no comparison, I think it's the same thing. You may say that it is fine for a Mitsu Lancer owner to mod their car to look like a Mitsu EvoX (since both are Mitsu cars) but it is not fine that Proton is now "copying" Lancer and therefore potentially flood the street with "Lancer lookalikes and wannabes".

You may say that the "value" of owning a Mitsu car may now be lost since Proton looks like gonna come out with this "Walan".

But what of the original EvoX owners? have you guys ever wondered what they think of Lancer owners modding their cars to like an EvoX? It has been 3 years now since EvoX and Lancer were launched, and many many aftermarket parts have come out that allowed many lancer owners to mod their cars to look like EvoX. I am ABSOLUTELY SURE quite a few owners of genuine EvoX owners have been asked if their car is an ori Evo or a Lancer-modded-to-look-like-Evo.

To me (personally and IMHO), there is no difference ON A HUMAN/INDIVIDUAL LEVEL.

Becoz when Lancer owners mod their Lancer to look like EvoX, it means they can't afford an EvoX in the first place, they want their car to look more powerful by modding to look like EvoX i.e. THEY WANT PEOPLE TO THINK THEY OWN (= CAN AFFORD) A EVOX.

So if "Walan" owners eventually mod their car to try to look like a Mitsu Lancer, I don't think we shd ridicule them. They are just like Lancer owners modding their car to look like an EvoX. Both categories = WANNABEs, there is no real basic difference.

As car enthusiasts we have to understand this. As human beings we have to understand this even more, because I am sure you have friends that are both rich and poor.

Sure, our Lancer's second hand value will drop like shit. But that is not the fault of future "Walan" owners. Remember this.

Note that I am not dissing Lancer owners that have spent a lotta $ to mod their car to look like EvoX. I understand the "mod feeling", fuck I also got Ralliart emblem mah. I am only just trying to say that "Walan" owners also have "mod feelings" and "aspirations for cars they cannot afford".

IMO, the displeasure exprienced by current lancer owners is on a different scale compared to that of the Evo X owners.

Mainly due to the fact that all Evos share almost the same design as lancers (or vice versa). So it's only human for most lancers to wanna look like their superior sibling


On the other hand, a defunct automaker (P1) bloody cloned the lancer. It wouldn't be that great of an 'embarrassment' if it was done by a more established automaker.

I'm sure there were similar cries when Naza rebatched the pug 206 as a bestari!

Specialist, I understand your comment. I know a lotta Pug owners are pissed at Naza. Kia owners too. Naza is worse than Proton in this respect IMO

But at least Naza and Proton are making cars more affordable, or rather making more affordable cars by copying and through agreements/handshakes. I actually don't blame Mitsu... they still continue to lag behind Honda and Toyota in the C-Seg section even 3 years after Lancer was launched.

What's even worse is that it is possible that most online and hard-print medias will be kinda "bought" by Proton to zip their mouths and not say what we have posted here. Proton will prolly instead say stuff like "We have a long history with Mitsubishi and we believe we can further enhance the value of Mitsubishi's Lancer on a worldwide scale due to our partnership with them.". Or something like that. It's pathetic.

Makes me think that the only good thing about Malaysia is roti canai, nasi lemak and having met my wife here

Having said that, I believe the pricing of "Walan" will be crucial. They have to target the B-Seg aggressively. Gotta be no more than RM80K. Many many Citys and Vioses on the road right now... that is what I think they must aim at capturing on an aggressive scale. Otherwise, I don't see any point in this "partnership" with Mitsu.

1. A Development Agreement, to develop a new Vehicle Model for PROTON based on details of work, target specifications, job sharing and time schedule as determined by both parties (”Licensed Product”).

This is the very first car I bought which costs me more than RM100k. I was so happy to trade in my old Wira and to top up to an amount for my GT's down payment. I was really so happy that I could actually get rid of Proton eventually and upgrade to a Japanese make. I chose Lancer becoz of the 'love at first sight' and kaneh, see what happens now? This will be my first & last Mitsubishi car ever.

Like most owners of current model of Lancer GT, I fell in love with the design and handling of the car. So we now own 4B11 and 4B12 lancers. Somehow, this marketing deal by Mitsubishi has left a bitter pill. Will not buy another Mitsubishi vehicle from now on.

Malaysia considered small market. I'm not surprised Mitsu agreed to this deal. They prolly will make more money (compared to actually selling real Lancers).

I don't have a single regret buying the Lancer. Altho' I enjoyed modding Stinger, at the end of the day, it is a hobby, it is just a machine. I don't really care about this Proton-Mitsu deal.

However, I do understand the general frustration/anger/ etc of Lancer owners. But I encourage all to just forget about it and move on with life. Work harder and be able to afford more expensive cars is my motto

Rev, you got a point there and yes, work harder to buy a more expensive car. That is what I hope to achieve soon. But, it will not be a Mitsubishi anymore lor.

So meanwhile, our Lancer will be one of the most boirng cars on the road.

Proton Inspira RM79,888 dibuka untuk tempahan


Proton Holdings Bhd memperkenalkan Sedan baharu empat pintu bersaiz sederhana "Inspira", dengan harga permulaan pada RM79,888 dan ia bukan model pengganti bagi Waja.

"Waja sedang dihentikan. Ini bukan pengganti," kata Pengarah Urusannya Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir di pelancaran awal edisi terbaharu produk Proton itu di Subang.

Beliau berkata model baharu itu adalah hasil daripada perkongsian jangka panjang Proton dengan Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC).

Kerjasama dengan MMC untuk menghasilkan Inspira membolehkan Proton menjimatkan banyak masa dan dana, katanya.

"Daripada padangan syarikat ia lebih murah," katanya sambil menambah kos untuk membangunkan sebuah kereta yang benar-benar baharu ialah kira-kira RM700 juta.

"Ia kerjasama sama-sama menang bagi Proton dan MMC," katanya.

Tempahan bermula hari ini dengan minimum RM1,000. Mereka yang menempah kereta dari hari ini sehingga 15 Nov akan mendapat perkhidmatan servis dua tahun percuma atau 50,000km pertama.

Pakej servis itu termasuk caj buruh percuma dan alat-alat servis bernilai RM1,658 bagi kereta tersebut yang akan dilancarkan pada 10 November.

Proton menawarkan penghantaran berubah berterusan (CVT) dengan sistem kawalan elektronik kenderaan pintar dan inovasi (INVECS-III) dalam varian Inspira.

Antara ciri-ciri praktikal yang boleh diharapkan pelanggan daripada model baharu ini termasuklah kruis auto, lampu automatik dan pengesan hujan, sistem penyaman udara automatik penuh dengan sistem kawalan cuaca bagi penumpang dihadapan dan belakang, dan beg udara keseluruhan bagi keselamatan penumpang.

Proton menyasar menjual 1,600 unit Inspira sebulan.

"Pasaran bagi kereta Segmen-C ialah kira-kira 5,000-6,000 unit sebulan. Oleh itu kami menyasar 1,600 sebulan kerana ia bernilai bagi wang," kata Syed Zainal.

Beliau berkata syarikat itu juga menyasar mengeksport Inspira, "tetapi kami akan terlebih dahulu memastikan kestabilan pengeluaran."

Inspira tampil dengan empat warna -- Putih, Hitam, Perak dan Merah.

SUBANG JAYA: Proton Holdings Bhd is targeting to sell 1,600 units of its new mid-sized four door sedan, the Inspira, every month.

The car, which is essentially a rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer GT, will be launched on Nov 10.

Group managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said the vehicle, which was already available for booking, would be positioned as a high C-segment/low D-Segment vehicle and would be tentatively priced from RM79,888 to RM95,000.

“The best way to launch a car in this segment is through smart collaborations,” said Syed Zainal at the soft launch of the Inspira on Thursday.

He added that the development of the vehicle was in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motor Corp (MMC) of Japan.

The Mitsubishi Lancer GT starts from RM120,980. Vehicles within the C-segment includes makes such as the Honda Civic or Toyota Altis while the D-segment comprises models such as Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Syed Zainal said the Inspira would replace its Proton Waja sedan that is being be phased out.

Just to add to equation of 5% tht differs fm inspira fm lancer: suspension is not fm Mitsu, but fm Proton.

Advantages of having Lancer now:

1) Fully imported car, not Buatan Malaysia car!
2) Cheaper and more choice of spare part and after-market products in future that suits our Lancer
3) The Inspira abangs still will look lancer with awe, because we are still atas them.

What made you buy lancer? for me, the look of the car sitting on 18" black alloy rims plus magnesium shift are the determining factor, aside its 100% fully imported car. If you had purchased lancer based on any of this criterias, well don't worry Lancer still special car.

btw, proton had targetted to sell 3000 satria cps neo a month when they launched the car, but in reality sold only 300 units a month (10% of their target). Why? The only reason i can think is that malaysians lost confidence in Proton. they try to re-position themselves by launching Inspira, but i believe its just an act to woo malaysians to buy proton again. Will it be successful? Time will tell. But as for me, one proton is enough, and if i were to choose lancer or inspira, I definately go for the Japanese lady.
