Please be aware that if your car is already at peak (near 100%) volumetric efficiency (especially those who have changed the intakes and exhaust), an ECU remap will yield very minimal gains, if any.

An ECU remap, coupled with a good performance muffler (HKS axle-back) & LCP will give near 100% volumetric efficiency. (There is even no need to change the extractor/header, remove the CAT or change the diameter of the exhaust piping).

Usually, you would only do an ECU remap if you intend to go further with your modifications eg. like high-cams, port&polish, re-stroke, force induction and etc.

Hi! Guys,

Below was the reply sent by Dylan from DK Tuning based in Penang.

Thanks for writing in and interest in our remapping services.

Its a pleasure for me to compliment you that you have made 2 most
important mods which compliment a remap perfectly. We usually recommend better
airflow airfilter after a remap but usually an exhaust upgrade would be too
costly for most.

Let me answer briefly on your questions.

Min Gain - We cannot guarantee a min or max gain as the enhancement
varies a lot across different cars of different condition. Engines roll out of
the production line are not made equal, and the hp could varies as much as
5-10hp, depending on the engine displacement. For Lancer 2.0GT 150cv, typically
the new HP would be 164cv. Have you dynoed your car after your 2 mods?

Warranty - Our warranty is on our software/map itself. If your car is
diagnosed with fault codes, we won't proceed with the remap, as we don't want to
be taken blamed for any mechanical or electrical faults which already exist in
the car. During the process of remapping and test drive after remap, and if
there are problems relating to the newly installed map, it is our responsibility
to rectify the problem until your car is 'perfect'. I want to assure you we will
provide a lasting excitement and enjoyment for your newly remapped car for as
long as you own the car. We want to build a good reputation in the remapping
market, hence would need a good feedback, recommendation and appreciation from
all our clients nationwide.

PRICE - RM2,500 per car

Looking forward to your support.

Thanks.

Hi Mr DKTuning,

In your website's FAQ page, you say that a Service Center will not be able to detect a car's ECU has been re-mapped/reflashed because a Service Center's diagnostic software does not have such a detection capability.

Can you GUARANTEE this?

Can you GUARANTEE that MMM itself (not Service Center) cannot detect a reflashed/remapped ECU?

Note that I am talking about the 4B11 Lancer. I am not sure if your FAQ page takes this car into account.

Thank you.

I know reflash for NA car normally yields not more than 10 whp and the price for reflash by DK is more than RM2,000 whereas a reflashed with ECUTEK on Scooby in Glenmarie is a mere RM600, dun talk abt the HP gain la on Scooby.

Still waitin for DK to answer.... will ask Chai or James of AE Enginuity in Glenmarie if he does for our lousy LGT. AE just install supercharger to an M3 that costs RM70k!!!!!!!!!!

Gentlemen, goodday everyone!

Sorry for late response here, as usual, I don't visit forums that often.

WARRANTY ISSUE
It is confirmed by my clients for recently, Peugeot 308THP (2 cars), Fiat Bravo 1.4TJETs and Audi A4 B8 1.8T all 2010 models to have went into the service centres for regular servicing and diagnostic checkings. They all sms reported to me all went through without problem!

PRICE
This item is also discussed in my FAQ briefly. Being a Malaysian myself, we are very good at price comparing to make sure you get the cheapest in town. I am very frugal at times so I understand whenever there are feedbacks from clients of whereabout they got extremely cheap remapping services. But I don't recommend purely searching for the cheapest but the most value deal in town. There is a distinctive difference between the 2. Let me share another encounter recently... I have got some clients who was comparing my prices with a Popular company in KL providing an ecu remap services as well but less than half my price quoted! I told him I am not going to remap his car and urged and persuaded my client to go ahead with the remap there and let me know how the outcome is. That company fits my client's budget so it was just perfect, but surprisingly, he dared not attempt.

If the prices differ in the hundreds of ringgit, it makes sense but when it comes to thousands, I am sure there are some major difference in the two services or product provided. At DKTUNING, we knew there are really cheap remaps out there but somehow, there is no way we can match that kind of low prices with our quality product. We don't do generic mappings which sometimes may ended up with problems. Why wouldn't we want to capture bigger market if we could just by lowering our prices?

I can't comment what other companies' ecu remapping does, but for us, we only provide 1 type of ecu remapping...Full Remap. I heard there are some companies who remove speed limiter, and they charged a few hundreds. THen if you want to raise rev limiter, there goes a couple of hundred again. We don't do these kind of gimmicks, I assure.

Remapping market prices are between RM1.8k - RM5k per car, but recently there are the emerging super-cheap remap prices around, starting as cheap as RM400!

It is a never ending argument when it comes to prices. When we look at LED torchlight alone, there are the RM15 per piece which looks almost identical to the ones sold in shatter-proof glass cabinet in Ace Hardware with the most expensive ones tagged at RM500+ a piece if i am not wrong.

We usually benchmark our prices with companies such as APR and MTMs.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you may have.

BTW, we also send out NEWSLETTER every month, so if you want to stay in touch, do send us an email. We'll add you in the list.

Thanks for replying, Dylan.

However, the cars you mentioned are not 4B11 Mitsubishi cars.

I hope I don't sound like being a spoilsport but I really would like to know if you can guarantee if a 4B11 Lancer will not be detected to have had a remap/reflash if a remap/reflash was done by you.

This forum is basically a 4B11 Lancer forum. I'm sure you understand.

Hello guys,

No worries, I understand your concern to being careful. Warranty is a very important need for a new car. Let me share a little below which I try to explain in layman's term:

Diagnostic system in a dealer usually deals on Diagnostic settings such as Safety (airbag, abs, esp, EBD), Error codes/fault codes, coolant temperature, MAF sensor, O2 sensors, etc. These had nothing to do with the ECU's Mapping side completely. They are unable to access the Performance Mapping side of the ECU. Even if they could, the file sizes are exactly the same, Immobiliser settings untouched, chassis, engine no and all identity codings are unchanged when we remap a car.

I can also show / proof to you with our diagnostic machine that we cannot scan any difference before and after remap. Check out our website for our next trip to KL which is happening this week (a few days from now!).

There shouldn't be a problem if its a normal diagnostic check. However, if there was a ECU update, then it will be detected since during updates, there is a need to check file versions.

Dylan, for normal diag checks, a SC will usually go through the motions and use a set of routines.

My question (in case you didn't get it) is really this : If a car that has been reflashed/remapped by you has to go through a thorough check (for whatever the reason... maybe due to warranty claims for a certain expensive car part eg. the CVT), can you guarantee that Mitsubishi Malaysia (not a SC, but MMM) will not be able to detect a reflashed ECU?

You seem to say that a reflashed ECU cannot ever be detected, although I do detect a tint of uncertainty by you Smile

On a related note and as an example : If a car's AFR has been tweaked to be leaner than the normal threshold of a stock 4B11 Lancer, do you think Mitsubishi Malaysia will be able to tell that the AFR is, uh, not "normal"?

Hello!

Most of the service centre would normally use the MUT tools for diagnostic. Firstly, the diagnostic system allows the SC to manage diagnostic systems, which is completely not related to the mapping. Secondly, the MUT tools are not designed to read the map. Thirdly, the technicians usually aren't well versed with many advanced feature in their diagnostic system. Very well trained professional technician MIGHT be able to tell the difference in ignition timing but yet they can't confirm the truth.

Whether the SC do diagnostic check, or even update the map, they can't detect any changes to the map details and identity because, we did not change any identity within the car ECU.

Okay let me try to put it in layman's word. While a waiter was delivering a glass of Coke to a table, he stopped midway at the bar, poured off 20% of the Coke and top up with Diet Coke, and proceed to serve to the diners. He doesn't change the glass, colour of the drink, straw, etc. The diner consumes 20% less sugar yet can't tell that the waiter helped him towards lessen the risk of diabetic.

I hope this example is making sense! Haha...lol!

We have got feedbacks from different clients using different car models who went through their regular services under warranty and none reported any problem! Here are some example threads you can read through among the Peugeot owners:-

http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?showtopic=93234

http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?showtopic=94571

Reverend, if really there are any remapped Lancer is about to go through a major warranty claim and worried about the remap, we can swap the mapping back to original then return back to performance mapping once the claim was done. No worries! Wink

well IMHO, its all up to u. hard to say which 1 is better. cost wise, if ur car is mildly modded piggyback or reflash is enough as power gain will be minimal, but for heavily modded car then investing in standalone would worth the investment as its more expensive.and i do agree like elan say both hv pros n cons.
