| Hi Lancer Nation. I am gatsby_d from Shah Alam. I was previously active in Toyota Vios Club Malaysia since 2005. I still keep my Vios, but I would like to learn more about my new Lancer EX. After joining Lancer GT Club a few weeks ago, I found that club mainly cater for Lancer GT owners who wants to modify their cars into Evo X. Since I don't have a GT, I'm feel a bit of an outsider there. My aim is to maintain the stock outlook of my Lancer EX, while improving my EX's performance without the usual noise and harsh rides. I wonder how to make it more powerful, yet also, more comfortable. In my Vios, I found that when I mod for performance, I have to sacrifice my comfort (i.e. noisy straight flow M7 Japan muffler, adjustable Gab SS suspension system a bit harsh while I have a back problem and I listen to good music, etc..). Therefore, I make it a point that I don't want an Evo-X transformation and I don't care about modding it into a GT either. Hehehe. Besides, the EX look is exclusive, and I might be influenced more by JDM style VIP look. Anyway, I would love to learn more about my new Lancer EX and hope that any VIP style enthusiasts here could shed some light on some stylish bling-bling mods. Cheers!

| Welcome, gatsby_d. Since you don't want to mod the looks (you don't even want a spoiler?) and wants to focus on power and comfort, I suggest the first thing you try to change to get an instant boost in power would be to change the entire exhaust setup. Most members here would say that a complete Hotbits exhaust setup gives the best bang-for-buck power gain, which can be anywhere from +8HP to +13HP (every car is different however, that's why there's a variance). You will feel the power difference, and the sound is not annoying (bit more bassy grunt compared to stock). I'm not familiar with the EX's suspension; is it the same as the GLS? If yes, then you should already have a comfortable (if a bit bouncy) ride, not harsh at all. Start from here and then as you get poisoned more and more we'll suggest more stuff | |

Typhoon kit? Is it the same as Blitz Open Pod intake like the one installed in my modified Vios? No thanks, a bit too noisy for me.

I only just mentioned the spoiler coz many like it on a Lancer, but I understand where you're coming from coz donyong here in this forum have actually removed his spoiler on his GT Exhaust is the best possible start for power gain. If you like going for high speed, install an open pod, but if you think open pod is too loud for your liking, install an open pod with a cover (like the Simota one, which has a carbon fibre cover and I was told that it doesn't have as bad a negative low end response as K&N). Thereafter, you may wish to consider electrical mods that, while they don't necessarily improve HP, they can provide some small torque gain (hence better driving satisfaction). Computer management ala reflashes and piggyback computers would probably be next on the agenda. Computer management is probably the only mod that can overcome stock factory 4B11 engine settings that were created in the first place due to environmental reasons. Good luck but more importantly have fun

Good luck but more importantly have fun Spoilers do make the car look sportier and attractive. But with the coming Waja Lancer, I'm sure everyone will do the same Evo X copycat. Hehehe. Anyway, internally, I've already installed the Ultra Racing front strut bar, mainly because it is white in colour, same as my Lancer. Not sure whether I want the rear strut bar, since it will take up my boot space. But, stability is my priority before any high power mods. Besides that, electrical mods seems essential to me since I love a good torque. Maybe I'll go for Hot Inazuma Hyper. I've used Hot Inazuma Type-Mr in my Vios and it felt good. For open pod, maybe I'll just try a Redline drop in air filter. Less restrictive than stock drop ins, but easier and not noisy at all. Hehe
