NOTES :
1 = Added UnichipQ, 1st April 2008
2 = Re-checking of UnichipQ, 18th April 2008
3 = Added HotBits full exhaust system, K&N drop-in filter, Lightweight Crank Pulley (LCP), 1st Aug 2008
4 = #3 + Snow Performance Water+Methanol Injection, 1st Aug 2008
5 = #4 + UnichipQ re-tuning, 1st Aug 2008

* All +/- in brackets are incremental figures from previous column’s data.
* Modifications mentioned are those expected to increase power and torque; there are other modifications done to Stinger that the author does not expect any power or torque gains.

OBSERVATIONS :
1. There appears to be a slight drop when UnichipQ was re-checked 17 days post-installation (compare Columns 1 & 2). The reason for re-checking UnichipQ was to see if our 4B11’s ECU would eventually override UnichipQ’s “forced” parameters (which I was assured would NOT happen) with regards to AFR, ignition timing and MIVEC timing. I believe the drop in power/torque was due to lower tyre pressure, which I confirmed later.
2. Biggest power and torque gains are witnessed after adding HotBits full exhaust system, K&N drop-in filter and LCP (compare Columns 2 & 3).
3. There is a reasonably positive gain when UnichipQ was re-tuned to take advantage of HotBits full exhaust system, K&N drop-in filter, LCP and Snow Performance Water+Methanol injection (compare Columns 4 & 5).

Unichip still in Stinger la. Bro Jack of After12 told me that I can only sell my Unichip for like RM500 only and advised me to just keep it... As for tuning, it was done on the rollers.

ya, but retuning charge was around 400-500 depending the tuner know the password to open the previous setup lock.
if unichip install in sg, average they charge sg200 for repeating tuning.

GuyM,

i never dyno my car, but i can feel pickup launch increased after installing unichipQ at sg. i clocked topspeed 215 few times during my way back home (balik kampung) kl-jb.
for info, im using straight flow xzos sys. without unichip, few members with straight flow setup only can reach 195 - 205.

lets join us to sg bro...

Different Lancers will have different gains after installing Unichip due to a variety of reasons, some of which I think are :

1. Different tuning maps used
2. Difference in experience of tuner
3. Difference in risks a tuner (and car owner) is willing to take i.e. aggressiveness of tuning
4. Weight of car
5. If dyno-tuning, difference in dynamometer used
6. Tyre/rim size
7. Tyre pressure difference
8. Air intake difference
9. Cooling of radiator during dyno-tuning
10. etc. etc. etc. etc.

There are many many variables involved that will result in different HP/Nm figures, altho' the difference will not be great. IOW, the main thing is that the barrier is still the 4B11 and the CVT.

The Stinger figures posted above are what I have learned to be quite "safe" figures (according to my tuner, after chatting with him). It is possible to make the AFR leaner (to gain a bit more power, not much, but still can gain a bit more), to mess with the MIVEC timing a bit more (this one is not so easy, since messing with the MIVEC timing will depend on a few other parameters i.e. mods) and to tweak the ignition timing also.

For our Lancer, the main things to tweak would be the AFR, MIVEC timing and ignition timing. All other parameters really do not result in much use/gains.

IMO, even if you change your exhaust system, Unichip will not give you much (if any) gain if you want to tune Unichip because you think new exhaust system may give you more power with a re-tune.

I was most disappointed with the Unichip re-tune I did after installing the Snow Performance Methanol injection kit; the gain was minimal... but then again, maybe my tuner just wasn't confident enough or not knowledgeable enough (although I doubt it, since Robin@RS-Impressive is quite experienced) or maybe he knows my car is a car I need to use for work Smile

Of course, most of the above is just my humble opinion... I'm not a sifu... I'm just the guy that installed Unichip in April 2008 Razz Very Happy Smile

rev, i agreed with ur above statement. installing unichip in diff lancers will gains diff result much depending on what mod's having in the car.
And the main contribution of result was came from the skill & experinces of the tuner itself. diff tuner hv diff style of tuning method.

but for me, i still prefer & believe in onroad tuning result, instead of dyno tune. for lancer GT, my tuner said that factory mivec timing setting was in the best setting ady, so no need to resetting it again. so, my car tune for AFR and ignition timing only. other parameters non.

anywy for my car, i tune it for more rensponsive in initial & midrange setting. not for topend....but bare in mind that stil i got 215 ya.. UNICHIP vQ piggyback computer management Icon_basketball huhu

Today, a tuner told me he has Unichip program that can result in throttle boosting.

The last time I tuned my Unichip, this was not available (last time I re-tuned was like 1 year ago or even longer). Therefore my Stinger never had this throttle response parameter actually tweaked properly (I mean, when I tuned for first time, and then re-tuned, got la some throttle response tweakery.... but not actuall total/specific throttle response parameter tweak/tuning).

To all Unichip'd bros, please check if your Lancer already have this parameter tweaked using your Unichip.

No need 3-Drive, Blitz or BRM/HAC already Smile Actually, the tuner told me he got some complaints about BRM/HAC but 3-Drive is OK.

will check it out with C.H.Motor.. Version Q & Q+ already have the function to manipulate the throttle, but not for all cars, only for some models. maybe the software has been upgraded to the latest level.

previosly i was using HAC, i changed to 3-drive, i feel 3-drive is better.

Just to let you guys know that my Unichip sold to a LN member here. He doesn't do much modding but he loves driving fast and dragging.

I will be at Robin's new shop next Friday to witness the installation of Unichip on his car. My friend actually asked me if can have 2 settings for Unichip, one for normal/highway driving and one for dragging, using a switch to change between the settings. I asked Robin and he said "Caaaannnn... but not recommended for a NA car. For turbo car, this is OK and understandable.".

My friend will have a small part of Stinger's spirit next Friday and will be "striking" terror very soon, hehehe Smile I know he is very gan jeong/cannot wait already... he told me Smile

Why Need To Use Unichip?

# The Ultimate Power Upgrade

# Power - The control you need to make 100% of the power available from the engine.

# Flexibility - Unlike other products, the Unichip is a universal tuning solution with which a tuner can control timing, fueling, and boost on virtually any vehicle with an ECU upon which to piggyback. Mitsubishi, Mercedes, Toyota, etc... diesel, rotary, Otto-cycle it doesn't matter. You use the same tuning software and the same hardware to interface and control all of them.

# Control - Add nitrous, water injection, additional fuel injectors to any application and control them through the Unichip for seamless engine operation with minimal driver tasks. Auto switch calibrations when needed.

# Adaptability - Integrate turbocharger/supercharger systems seamlessly by using the Unichip to provide real time timing and fueling changes based on air flow, throttle position, or a combination of both.

# Simplicity - Not just engine power but power over the engine for the tuner.

BTW, I have checked with Unichip tuner and he says Unichip got harnesses for certain car makes but he is 99% certain that Dastek does not make harness for a "low end" car like 4B11 regular Lancer. Dastek may have harness for EvoX but even if got, it won't fit our Lancer coz ECU wiring is very very different.

Unichip harnesses for various car makes cost RM950. Have to order, no ready stock at Robin's shop.

Check http://www.unichip.us/105-the-difference

Its Day 3 driving my chipped Lancer and its still thrilling every minute i'm holding the steering wheel Smile

Spent about 6 hours in Robyn's place (he reflashed an Airtrek and did some ding dong for a RX-8 in the same time). The waiting moments were endorphins-moderated, despite the fact that i had a sleepless night the day before Smile

The morning started with a rush to Speedworks to get my K&N open pod - decided on this after chatting with a few seniors. As time was running short i can't get something better (Elan i actually wanted to ask you for the typhoon kit) so have to settle with this. The car was running very lean after OP. AFR~15+ on idling and ~13+-14 when WOT. That's why i immediately felt that the low end was lousy after putting OP.

Robyn tuned 4 parameters, i.e. AFR, mivec timing, Ignition timing and throttle boost thingy. Of course the car was tuned to achieve best/optimal performance. So eventually my car's AFR falls on 14.7 when idling and 12.8-13.2 when WOT, when the best power/torque map was achieved. This has been quite consistent with the AFR recommended by my friend who had a RPW reflash.

The very same night i went for touge with Stifa and 4 other lancers. Too bad the weather wasn't good and road condition was slippery with thick mist. Thanks to the 4 new rubbers the car was holding tightly - with minimal expected skidding in between. Was enjoying the 2 levels of music when RPM reaches ~4k and 6k. The Kaninia Open Pod really sounded awesome, while the tuning makes my car much more responsive!

Will try to get some top speed reading once i get the chance. At the moment i am enjoying my ride - and you know, its hard to keep the right foot light Smile

Driven the RPW reflashed Lancer and another Unichipped Lancer i felt that my car is still lacking of initial response, though it has been much better than before. Will drag with them and see how much i'm left behind haha Smile

Power mod is like hell, can't see the bottom. (I remembered someone said this before) At least the chances i get tapau'ed by Potong Lanjaw is lower now Smile

Thanks to everyone for your input before i installed this, esp to bro Rev who made many phone calls/spent his precious time there. Thanks ah!!

"Power mod is like hell, can't see bottom" was said by my stupid Sean la.

Like I mentioned to you, keep a watch on the FC to see how the car is now. I know I know, FC prolly will be higher now since you can't help tekaning more and more now... but after this initial excitement has doed down and you return to your pre-Unichip driving style, check and see if the FC has improved.

Is the MIVEC kicking in slightly earlier (i.e. at slightly lower RPM) now?

The touge session was after the TT?

I'm actually toying with the idea of dragging with you, strike... just to see what has happened to my lousy Stinger after I took out all these mods.

I mean, there are still folks that think that if they spend enough time "training" their Lancer, they hope that their Lancer will be very powerful and responsive... haha Cool

Well, after 2.5 years of "training" my Lancer using Unichip (I believe you guys understand what I mean here), I think it would be interesting to find out, doncha think?

From my experience, both are comparable. However, both Unichip'ed cars and reflashed cars have quite a bit of performance gains difference when comparing like-for-like or even against each other (i.e. reflashed-vs-reflashed, Unichip-vs-Unichip, reflash-vs-Unichip). Sometimes it's a matter of luck, or tuner capability or simply that not every Lancer car is made identical.

For me, I think I made the right choice in one critical aspect i.e. I can sell my Unichip to another person later on... whereas reflash = how to sell later? Smile

Tested top speed ystd with my friend sitting beside, aircond on - PLUS highway to KLIA.

205kmhr.

Then took my friend's stock LGT to KESAS also hit 205kmhr topspeed.

Something wrong somewhere kah? Bigger intake, bigger outflow, topspeed is not better than stock ahaha Smile
