RRM has been working in secret to increase N/A power. Some things are easy and run straight , like reflashes, but warranty concerns and permenancy are issues to customers. Also having to run 91+ octane (US RON) even on a long trip is an issue to many.

You can unplug it in 60 seconds and go back to stock. SC will never know it was there. RRM has dynoed it on a stock 2009 2.4 Lancer GTS and 9 whp alone without even touching fuel. That along with a piggyback, header etc..... Simply POPS.

The RRM modules advances the timing by 4-6 degrees, which is actually alot. It does so by manipulating the Karmen Vortex Air-Flow Sensor at the intake manifold.

The Karmen vortex-type air-flow sensor that is used by Mitsubishi is an oscillatory air-flow sensor that measures the vibrations of the downstream vortexes caused by the barrier placed in the air stream.

The RRM Timing Module

Please note the RON Rating differences in RON rating in the US compared to the rest of the world. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia reproduced here.

For full explanation, refer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Generally, octane ratings are higher in Europe than they are in North America and most other parts of the world. This is especially true when comparing the lowest available octane level in each country. In many parts of Europe, 95 RON (90-91 AKI) is the minimum available standard, with 97/98 RON being higher specification (being called Super Unleaded).

In Malaysia, the "regular" unleaded fuel is 95 RON, "premium" fuel is rated at 97 RON, and Shell's V-Power at 97 RON.

This higher rating seen in Europe is an artifact of a different underlying measuring procedure. In most countries (including all of Europe and Australia) the "headline" octane that would be shown on the pump is the RON, but in the United States, Canada and some other countries the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, sometimes called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), Road Octane Number (RdON), Pump Octane Number (PON), or (R+M)/2. Because of the 8 to 10 point difference noted above, this means that the octane in the United States will be about 4 to 5 points lower than the same fuel elsewhere: 87 octane fuel, the "regular" gasoline in the US and Canada, would be 91-92 in Europe. However most European pumps deliver 95 (RON) as "regular", equivalent to 9091 US AKI=(R+M)/2, and deliver 98, 99 or 100 (RON) (93-94 AKI) labeled as Super Unleaded - thus regular gasoline sold in much of Europe corresponds to premium sold in the United States.

Ahem... Donny, my lousy Stinger has done 8-9sec ZTH going slightly uphill (on East West Link, after the toll from PJ heading to Connaught). That is with my heavy subwoofer and with the air-cond on. Ahem... hehehehe Razz Smile

Hi Rev, you are really a devil. At the moment, I can only use my ride as the 'lab mouse' to play with modifications etc. So maybe....will put in an Unichip later on. Not sure at the moment.

The other ride belongs to my big boss (ie wife). The lancers over there have the 4B12 engines as an option. Also the 2nd gear has a lower ratio and thus the acceleration is very good. Will limit modifications as speed limits are very strict and noise/environment rules are tight.

RRM has both the module, ECU & CVT. Is it suitable for our LGT here or has anyone has the pleasure of using this already?

Hi Scissorshand.
I have been using this RRM unit for 2-3 months now in my LGT. Very happy with it. Even changed to an open pod filter to maximize its potential.

Hi Scissorhand.

I am a fat old man staying in PJ (Kota Damansara). If you want to have a look at this unit, just let me know.

I managed to get the unit by asking a relative in US to buy it for me. Then it was sent to me. Cost a fortune as the import tax on such gadget is high. But it was still a good mod.

I am thinking of buying the ECU gadget during my next trip to US. But I am not sure of the cut and splicing of wires....too painful and dangerous.

Initially Unichip was painful to watch for me also (can ask bwtc, who was there with me all the time during the installation, all 3+ hours of it) but I never regretted it. Go go go, buy Unichip from me!!!

Due to nature of my work, I travel a lot. Always on look out for lancers/EVO. I apologize for 'chicken out' on last gathering. I got back late and my bones and muscles are not as strong as they used to be. Back to RRM timing module....administrator will whip me for being out of topic.

I hope that I can use my coming trip to check out some gadgets for my ride. Maybe get the RRM ECU piggy. From the website, it is supposed to work in tandem with the timing module. Again, I am concerned about the cutting and splicing of wires and tweaking the ECU. If anyone wants to have a look at the timing module, can just send an email to me (skuan18@yahoo.com.sg). Where is Donny ? He is pretty silent on this topic......why...

Kekeke... but seriously, Unichip is good stuff la. The HP/Nm increase may not be really value for money on a regular Lancer but the tuned throttle response and MIVEC makes up for it. If stick it in your Ralliart, I'm pretty sure the HP/Nm will be much more value for money.

Hi all, if I am not mistaken, from the website of RRM, the piggyback ECU requires some cutting and soldering of wires. The timing module is definitely PnP.

1st...i dont dare to try.. wrong setting may cause engine knocking or pinging. 2nd... my piggyback is enough, cause ignition timing already at optimum setting. will gain nothing if i install this.

Only 2 individuals, as far as I know, have this in M'sia. Timing is advanced 6 degrees by manipulating the vortex sensor (MAP sensor).

There are no issues with this except that their is errattic idling for the 1st 15-20secs of cold start.

Timing can be advanced to 10 degrees ie. 6 + 4 (with reflash or piggy back on top of the timing module). No problems.

Only problem is that this product cannot be bought from RRM. They only ship it to USA and Canada. To buy it, you'll need someone who goes to the states for you or if you know someone in the states, buy it from RRM and mail it to you. Custom taxes can reach 50%++.

I was told by Sk18 there are 2. Sk18 installed this RRM timing module.

IIRC, he said that he was extremely satisfied with it. The only thing I remember him saying is that "This RRM timing is good. To put into perspective, it is like putting 1/2 of complete Hotbits Exhaust System"

but donny, there is no gain with this module if the ignition timing timing already advanced by 10 degree (or maximum setting) with piggyback or reflash. correct me if i'm wrong.

Elan,

For example, if the ECU advances timing by 10 degrees, what this RRM timing would do is to make it 10 (ECU) + 6 (RRM). So, the RRM timing is on top of what the ECU decides.

How does it do it? By manipulating the MAP sensor into thinking that the timing of the car is below the set parameter (i.e. MAP pressure says increase timing by 6 degrees).

Best of all, RRM timing module is permanent, no need retune. If any warranty claim, just unplug from car.

bro, 10 + 6 = 16 degree.. too advance ignition timing.. definatly engine knocking/pinging will occur.. serious damage may happen.

Which is why when RRM made this product, they made sure that it can run on RON89 (M;sia = RON 93). 2-3% at top end, smooth out low/mid end.

I heard that when you use RON95 here, there is some slight pinging at 2500rpm. Otherwise, OK. According to sk18, he doesn't here any pinging at all at RON95. So far, after 1.5 years of using, no problems.

Best is to use RON97 (no need v-power), and drop in 3 tablets (1gm - treat 90liters) of dynotabs ( to boost to RON 99. That is what I heard to bring out the "BEST EFFECT". which is more that 2-3%.

dynotab link.

I had tried this gadget on lancer 4B12 and used RON92. So far, so good.

For my ride 4B11, I had been using RON95 and it ran smoothly.
