PostSubject: Toyo Proxes T1R VS Falken 912   Toyo Proxes T1R VS Falken 912 EmptySat Dec 05, 2009 1:00 pm

Guyz,

Time to change my ori Yoko soon. Been eyeing this 2 tyres have was wondering if any of u guyz have experience on these two. Size i'm considering will be 225/45/18 if possible.

Quiet - Will it be better than ori Yoko? Approx %?
Dry Grip - Will it be the same?
Wet Grip - Will it be the same?
Weight - Is it heavier than ori Yoko?
Best price u know incl location, name of shop (only in Klang Valley).

Cheers!

Bro, Both these tyres are definatley quieter than the stock Yokos..

IIRC, the price for 912 are RM450++ and T1R are RM580++...

As for the handling and weight, I'm not sure as I've only changed to Michelin PP2 and now Dunlop SP Sport..

Currently using Toyo C1S. After about 5,000 km, IMHO, good grip and performance on both dry and wet, noticeably more quieter then stock. Can not comment on T1R though. cheers

No harm done. Btw was at Leon's place last Sat and tempting to try the Nexen 8000 model coz its cheap at RM390 as opposed to S Drive Yokos RM490. But still haven't changed yet and i've clocked 37k km on stock tyres ady.I'm one fussy bastard and still undecided which tyres to go. Heart tells me still to S drive or Falken 912

Seriously GuyM, just to share.. personally I've no confidence on those unbranded new tyres like Nexxen, Pinso, Federal, Nankang or whatever.. One of our bros had issue with the Pinso..

If money is not a major obstacle, I would suggest that you go for proven branded tyres.. I was penny wise pound foolish with my tyre selection..

I bought 225/45 18' Dunlop SP Sport FM901 (Indon made) as a replacement for my 215/45 Michelin PP2s.. Although handling in wet and dry is good but it's noisy like HELL.. Like driving a lorry after speeds of 100km/h.. Now stuck with this tyres for another 25,000kms.. sigh..

The moral of the story i wanna share is "you pay for what you get".. Invest in a good rubber so that you will enjoy your driving for another 40,000kms..

I agree & believe cheap things dun normally come good while good things dun normally comes cheap. As I mentioned, will very likely go with S Drive, Toyo or Falken. But pricing, think Leon's offer on S Drive is cheapest I found so far.

Btw, sold my Aprillia ady. Give up superbike for now till wife gets over the 3x crash tis year alone in the track of course. So looks like tis LGT will be my "SD" machine for now.

Damned 9 sad!!!!!!

Btw, thanks for sharing yr experience.

PostSubject: Re: Toyo Proxes T1R VS Falken 912   Toyo Proxes T1R VS Falken 912 EmptyFri Dec 25, 2009 12:51 am

i guess i am in a good position to comment on Falken 912. Used em' for <40k.

Falken 912:
Initial impression:
1. Cheap <RM500.
2. Good grip in dry
3. Lousy grip in wet
4. So-so noise

Swap at around 15k front back. Used all the way till about 39k then i changed to pinso. Why?

1. Getting more and more noisy
2. Car shaky when whacking PD coastal road bend
3. Terrible handling in wet.

My impression for Falken vs Pinso
1. Pinso is much much cheaper.
2. Pinso is slightly quieter. (this one may be a bit bias, as Pinso was new while 912 worn off liao)
3. Pinso has better handling in wet. Falken is better in dry. (subjective feel)

Ask me to choose again, i will pick Pinso over Falken.

But if can get S-Drive at <$500 225/40/18, i will definitely got for S-drive.

You can check the reviews and test lab reports of these tyres in tirerack.com. Its comprehensive, at leasts for the famous ones.

Nexen8000 is reportedly good, you can try checking it out in Spec-R. I'll scan it and put it up, but in 2010.

I thought most whom have changed to 18" from 7 - 8J will be more suited to use 225 width. The only thing is that there are conflicting views that 225/40 series would be better fit compared with 225/45 series.

i was comtemplating between 40 vs 45 last time. In order to reduce sluggishness (dunno how true it is) i opted for 40 profile. 225 makes better grip but worse aquaplaning. 40 makes the wheel arch gap worse for sure.

u have to see the width of your tires then decide on 40 or 45.

for 225 to 245, go for 40 series. for 215, then 45 series. otherwise, ur tires not only not wide enuf but also not thick enuf. this give u tremendous Noise and Harsh ride

PostSubject: Re: Toyo Proxes T1R VS Falken 912   Toyo Proxes T1R VS Falken 912 EmptySat Mar 20, 2010 11:57 pm

Ok, back to Falken 912, after lookin around Klang, i finally found the same shop that i bought my Advan RZ replica for RM1780 i think. He quoted RM450 per pc for 912 225/45/18 and RM420 for 225/40/18 respectively.

Then abt 1 km away, there's another shop that sells Altenza & Kenda tyres of 225/45/18 at RM360 & RM320 respectively but quoted 912 at RM510 per pc. Well, just askin coz ain't gonna go for those China made brands for now....

Btw, i did called Leon of Quicksave on Thurs and he quoted RM450 or more (can't remember for Nexen N6000) for 235/40/18!!!!!!! No more stock for 225/45/18 N6000 but for the price diff of RM50 compared to 912 i got from GoodWood Tyre & Service Sdn Bhd (in Klang Jaya formerly known as Goodwood), i'd rather buy the 912 for branding and reputation. My Toyota is using 912 with 195/55/15 and has clocked more than 30k km and did 1st rotation swap b4 CNY 2010. It's still bearable compared to A10 tyres of course.

Anyway, my stock A10 Yokohama has now approached approx 42k km ady and i think, visual inspection shows abt 20% left of it all round. Today went up Genting around 230pm with wifey & son, it was dry yet cloudy a bit. Up at Genting it was cooling of course with lots of mist.

On the way up, tapau every car i see, Merc E280, Camry 2.4V, Altis, FD2 etc etc doin 2-3rd gear on paddle shifts all the way up. I have to admit, in such situations, i LUV the damned noisy A10 coz it GRIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the way up and taking hard corners w/o screeching at all!! I'm AMAZED with 20% left it still grips and did not even drift (maybe i did not push harder), oversteer or understeer at all. Surprisingly i did not see those Genting Nissan Sentra taxi otherwise it'll be a good comparison.

Coming down at abt 10pm ++, very misty but dry road, its still the same. I luv these tyres like hell just today onli and also the other time i went up Genting with it last year.

I doubt the Falken 912 will give me this assuring/confident feeling as the A10 Yokohama. There's few new comers at LZ, selling their new or shall i say 90% tyres, hopefully will get it at a discount even though its noisy lor. Otherwise, its Falken 912 that fits by budget.

TOYO introduces the new Proxes C1S is specially designed for comfort, luxury and performance cars.

The tread pattern on The Proxes C1S tire which is the highest grade premium comfort tire, features asymmetric pattern that meets the demand in luxury sedan, including quietness, riding comfort and high speed stability.
Toyo Proxes T1R VS Falken 912 C1s01
Toyo’s Silent Wall technology minimizes noise during operation at highway speeds by using dense, perpendicular serrations located along the main groove walls of the tread. The serrations help disturb the rushing air flow, which normally produces an audible sound known as “pipe resonance”, a condition similar to wind blowing into a flute. The result on Proxes C1S is an exceptionally quiet ride.

Tmode® computer design technology by Toyo® results in a tire that is smooth and quiet with improved overall wear characteristics .Another noise reducing feature of the Proxes C1S is a “five variable-pitch shoulder.” Essentially, the shoulder block “pitch pattern” repeats every fifth pair of shoulder blocks to suppress harmonics during operation.

I'm assuming yours is T1R right? Got conflicting reviews especially on the wear at Autoworld forum. What's yr size then?

scissorhand, altough toyo tyre tread-wear rating quite low as it is a soft compound rubber, as long as u maintain tyre pressure and alignment, it can last quite long.

as for R1R its very grippy but it wear faster in the middle. T1R .... a good all rounder
