MIVEC modification? Empty
PostSubject: MIVEC modification?   MIVEC modification? EmptyTue Jun 22, 2010 12:25 pm

Stock MIVEC is 4250rpm or 4500rpm.

For those who have experience or you know those who have changed, what happens to the performance of the car if the MIVEC is set below stock or above stock?

eg.

3800rpm, the performance is =?
5000rpm, the performance is =?

Insight appreciated.

Don't really understand your question, Donny. You mean ZTH times or what?

bro, during my unichip tuning in Sg, the tuner adviced not to change the MIVEC setup.
he did several mivec tuning for Sg lancer especially to kick more early at 3500rpm. the result was 4b11 performance will not stable.
factory setting for mivec for 4b11 was the optimum setting.
our engine ecu only need fuel & air tuning for increasing it performance.

at first when i install unichip, my mivec was tweaked to start from 2500 rpm, performance lagged (fuel consumption was high) when i drag with a stock car ( stock car overtakes me easily ). then changed to 3000 rpm till not so good, later on tweaked to 3500 rpm - can say nt much diffenrent again. then make it stock setting again (4000 rpm). then went to sg to retune, the tuner told me that 4b11's mivec is already at optimum setting, no need to tweak it. thats my experience.

Hi Gelygeleman. Are you able to post the dyno chart of your ride after installing Unichip ? If not, just post the hp and torque.

Thanks

That's true but I believe the difference is no more than a few percentage. As long as we understand that, posting dyno sheets should not be too much of an issue.

It is not important to compare dyno sheets of different cars done on different dynamometers. What's important is that the SAME car is dyno'd again and again (after different mods) on the SAME dynamometer. This way, we can be educated on the gains made due to specific mods.

We are not here to compare cars or who has more HP or who has bigger dicks. We are here to learn about mods.

Therefore, to answer sk18, for my own ride, Unichip resulted in +6HP ATW gain across the entire rev range tested for a basically stock Lancer. After a few additional mods and a re-tune, another 2-3HP ATW gain materialized (at an additional RM250 for the re-tune). This is all measured on the same dynamometer (DASTEK 4WD rollers).

As for Donny's original topic/question, I am still asking what he really wants to know. Most likely, he is interested to know if different MIVEC timings can result in better ZTH times (I think). I think what Elan said may be true i.e. stock 4000RPM MIVEC may be best due to a few factors (weight of car i.e. MIVEC kick in too early is of no use).

I'm interested in 0-235kmh, 100-200kmh, quarter mile speed trap and their respective times.

Anyone tried putting MIVEC above the factory setting? I'm thinking along the line of the Type-R, VTEC kick in at 6000rpm...the higher the better.

sk18 and myself cannot put unichip because out timings are advanced by 6 degrees ady. Our cars have idling problem when crank ady (i.e for the 1st 30 secs, if you floor the pedal, the car cannot move).

Maybe we can advance by another 2 degrees, by then idling "dup dup dup" all the time.

Maybe reflash to eliminate speed limiter (hard and soft), improve some throttle response, and AF ratio wud do.

my setup was more for pickup til mid range.
anyway, i can feel much much diff of response after installing tis unichipQ+
